01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Vibrant leafy greens, thinned baby produce, and miniature Brussels sprouts arrive on the plate bursting with seasonal freshness. At Yumamaan Restaurant in Oe, Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto, the kitchen presents course menus centered on creative French cooking that weaves in more than 15 varieties of vegetables. From carrot soup coaxing out natural sweetness to thoughtful sauces paired carefully with fish and meat, delicate plating and nuanced flavors keep diners eagerly anticipating each successive course.
Counter seats overlooking the chef's workstation form the core of the dining room, establishing a calm, unpretentious atmosphere. Renovated from a traditional Japanese house, the space provides chopsticks alongside Western cutlery, inviting guests to linger comfortably while listening to the chef introduce the ingredients. For drinks, the lineup includes wine and local craft beer, as well as non-alcoholic wine tailored to complement the food.
Both lunch and dinner are served exclusively as reservation-only courses. Midday dining features a casual 4-course option or a vegetable-focused 7-course selection, while evening services offer an 8-course dinner highlighting seasonal produce. It is a fitting venue for family gatherings, anniversaries, or any occasion calling for an unhurried, focused meal.
